Franconian Jura - Autumn in Sanspareil
Sanspareil, deutsch ohnegleichen) ist eine Ortschaft in der Gemeinde Wonsees (Landkreis Kulmbach in Oberfranken), die durch den Felsengarten Sanspareil bekannt wurde. Im Garten befinden sich eine große Anzahl bizarrer Felsgruppen, eine Grottenanlage, Architekturelemente und Skulpturen aus der griechischen Mythologie.

The Sanspareil Rock Garden located dose to the medieval Hohenzollern castle of Zwernitz was laid out from 1744 to 1748. The French name is said to originale from the reaction of a lady of the court in 1746, who exclaimed: "Ah, c'est
sans pareil!" dt has no equal!). In the same year Margrave Friedrich had Zwernitz renamed Sanspareil. Only a few of the originally numerous park buildings have been preserved: the open-air theatre, a mixture of grotto and
min, the Oriental Building and the kitchen building, which today houses a cafe. Since 1942, the castle and the rock garden have been administered by the Bavarian Palace Department.
In 1951 the garden was restored and in 1987 the parterre in front of the Oriental Building was reconstructed on the basis of a historical copper engraving. The Oriental Building is open to the public, äs is also Zwernitz Castle, which has the exhibition "Hunting in the tirne of the margraves".
