Nuremberg Castle
Nuremberg's landmark is the castle enthroned on a sandstone rock above the historical city. In 1140 the castle was used as a royal residence for the first time. It consists of the imperial castle ("Kaiserburg"), buildings of the Burgraves of Nuremberg and the municipal buildings of the Imperial City. Protected by a ditch and huge walls to the north the ensemble is a medieval weir system.
