Santa Clara is a big town, with 240.000 inhabitants fifth biggest of Cuba and lies right in the centre of the island. We diidn't really come here for the city, but for Che Guevara. Santa Clara is Che's city. In the last battle of the revolution his troops stopped Batista's supply train, the Tren Blindado, by destroying railroad tracks on 31. December 1958. Hardlly 12 hours later Batista fled the island in the early morning of New Year's Day. The revolution was won. The site of the Tren Blindado is must see as well as Che Guevara's Monument and Mausoleum. There is a very interesting exhibition with photos of his life and utensils he used. No photos allowed inside, so You have to get there Yourself.
