Nigeria
The Northern region of Nigeria just adjacent to the Niger State is pure sahel, quite dry and poor. Nowadays it is sadly known for violent religous conflicts. Even in 1992 we were ascted to be careful. But there is a glorious history such as the Housa Kingdom of Kano more than a thousand years ago which was finished by the Fulani in a jihad in 1805. Heinrich Barth came here in 1851.
