Djenné

Djenné sometimes is an island. During high tide You can only reach it by boat as it is situated on the interior delta of the rivers Bani and Niger as was the case when we arrived here. Djenné is some 130 km away from Mopti and much smaller. Most buildings are made of mud artificially formed and decorated. The town is well known for a world heritage, the Great Mosque which was built early in 19th century. The annual refreshing of the mud walls is a great event for Djenné's inhabitants and photographers.
